Review: MY FAIR LADY, Leeds Playhouse
UK / West End: Gary Naylor on June 08, 2024 Two terrific leads will delight audiences, but the source material's misogyny proves too much to simply sweep aside

Review: Albion Theatre's WOMAN IN MIND at Kranzberg Black Box Theater
St. Louis: James Lindhorst on June 08, 2024 Albion Theatre’s WOMAN IN MIND is a mad, absurd comedy that works on every level. It is a marvelous collaboration between director, actors, and technical crew to enrich comedic storytelling. Emily Baker is fantastic in the insanely demanding role as Susan. She leads this company with a workhorse-like performance that affords the supporting cast the opportunity to create ridiculously droll characters.

Review: AMERICAN IDIOT at DreamWrights
Central Pennsylvania: Sandra Harberger on June 08, 2024 DreamWrights is presenting “American Idiot” from June 7 to June 16th under the direction of Deirdre Casey. Louis Salazar was phenomenal in this emotional role through drug addiction, and I loved that his talent playing guitar was highlighted.

Review: Marissa Mulder's SWINGIN' ON A STAR Swings & Soars at The Cutting Room
Cabaret: Rob Lester on June 08, 2024 A wonderful singer, wonderful Jimmy Van Heusen melodies, and Jon Weber as M.D.: An ideal combination. What can I say about Marissa Mulder's June 2 performance of SWINGIN' ON A STAR at the Cutting Room? In a word, bravo.
Review: TOPDOG/UNDERDOG at Round House Theatre
Washington, DC: Pamela Roberts on June 08, 2024 At Round House Theatre, director Jamil Jude stages a brilliant, heightened and deeply emotional interpretation of the Suzan-Lori Parks’ work that is as raw and affecting now as it was when it earned Parks a Pulitzer Prize two decades ago.

Brighton Fringe Review: GHOST WALKS OF THE LANES, The Druid's Head
UK / West End: Kat Mokrynski on June 08, 2024 Ghost Walk of the Lanes is an eighty-minute tour of “Brighton’s oldest and most haunted quarter,” with a storyteller dressed in a Victorian costume leading audience members around several historic sites of the city, stopping and telling stories, ringing a bell to lead the way.
Brighton Fringe Review: KIDS CAN HECKLE!, Laughing Horse @ The Walrus (Raised Room)
UK / West End: Kat Mokrynski on June 08, 2024 Kids Can Heckle!, hosted by comedian Ollie Horn, has an interesting concept. As you might be able to guess from the title, children are allowed to heckle. In fact, according to the show’s descriptions, they are “encouraged to jump in, share their ideas, and be as silly as possible,” so you can definitely expect some voices to be chiming in!
Review: TAKING NOTES Takes a Look at Learning at The Green Room 42
Cabaret: Rob Lester on June 08, 2024 TAKING NOTES is a cabaret show with laughs and lessons learned in life and school. with a lot of pop and musical theatre along the way. Andrew Bova is the student taking it all in. The May 31st show was a promising NYC cabaret debut by a gregarious guy with teachable moments.

Review: THE GOAT is Brilliant Comedy at The Stage At Burke Junction
Sacramento: Courtney Symes on June 08, 2024 Edward Albee, whose odd middle-aged characters have fascinated American theatre-goers since 1962’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, explores what is perhaps his most interesting family dynamic in the 2002 Tony Award-winning play The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? The play is, as you might imagine, about a goat. This is not just any goat, though; this is a home-wrecking goat. Now, you might wonder how a farm animal could possibly drive a wedge in a solid family unit. Well, I’m here to tell you that it does so in a provocative and gut-busting script of genius and absolute hilarity.
Review: Riverside Actors Theatre and Nightingale Theatre Collective Premieres LIGHT BLIND at The Public Theatre
Arkansas: Theresa Bertram on June 08, 2024 What did our critic think of LIGHT BLIND at Riverside Actors Theatre?
Review: MARIE CURIE, Charing Cross Theatre
UK / West End: Cindy Marcolina on June 08, 2024 She was exceptional, but the musical written about her is anything but. It tends to be old-fashioned and traditional in structure, willing itself to be a majestic epic, but never reaching that stage. Her life story feels rushed and vague, the songs are run-of-the-mill, standardised, lacking that big “I want” statement that would cement her passion and drive the tale. It also all sounds the same throughout. Ultimately, it holds itself back, mainly with the quality of the writing. |
