Celebrating their 10th and final season, Third Eye Theatre Ensemble harkens back to their roots with a stirring and timely performance of Gian Carlo Menotti's The Consul.
The Consul tells a timely story about bureaucracy and immigration during turbulent times. Gian Carlo Menotti was himself an Italian immigrant to the United States, and wrote the opera as a response to refugees fleeing Europe after World War II.
UCO's opera department offers a cautionary tale. The Consul tells the story of one family trying to escape a country they can no longer call home. Though it ran on Broadway in 1950, it brings to mind current images that are seen on the news every night. Parallels to refugees and the bureaucratic system of being a victim of foreign war are seen.
Opera180 of Kansas City concludes its 2nd season with the 1950 Pulitzer Prize winning drama The Consul, with music and libretto by Gian Carlo Menotti. Performances will be April 17th & 18th at the Kansas City Masonic Temple at 903 Harrison Street in downtown Kansas City. Tickets are $25/each. The production will be sung in English.
China Institute celebrated its 2019 Blue Cloud Gala on November 25 at The Mandarin Oriental hotel in New York City, raising needed funds to support its work and mission to help better educate Americans about China.
